TEMPLE CHESS CLUB WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS
Temple Chess Club Under New Leadership
September 24th, 2020 / Philadelphia, PA — Temple University’s Chess Club is launching for this academic year. Directed by new leadership, the club is welcoming new members and is wanting to foster a chess-playing community that allows students to meet one another while learning to play chess.
During these unconventional times, opportunities for students to meet one another and get a sense of belonging are strictly limited because of social distancing measures. That's why, for the time being, Temple Chess Club is meeting virtually on Discord to offer a sense of engagement and opportunities for socialization in an online environment. Membership is free to the Temple community and meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm via Discord. Temple Chess Club is encouraging everyone to join regardless of their exposure to chess. If you aspire to learn, are interested in, or even just want to be a part of a vibrant community, Temple Chess Club encourages you to join.
“Chess is something that is universal, you don't need to know any language, you don't need to know much besides the game itself. Our club is focused on giving Temple students a fun extracurricular and a community they can hang out with while everything is online—plus it is completely free,” said Sebastian Carri, president of Temple Chess Club.
Temple Chess Club’s foreseeable future is a bright one. Club leaders intend to host local competitions within Temple once campus is opened; furthermore, they have intentions of starting a Philly-wide collegiate tournament with the surrounding universities and eventually creating a registered USCF Temple chess team.
